Stéphanie Debette

Stéphanie Debette is a Professor of epidemiology and a neurologist at the University of Bordeaux and the Inserm Research Center U1219, France.
Her research focuses on investigating the genetic and environmental determinants of complex, age-related neurological conditions, especially strokes, cervical artery dissections, and MRI-markers of vascular brain aging. Within Inserm U1219 she directs a team dedicated to "Vascular and neurological diseases: integrative and genetic epidemiology".
Prof. Debette trained as a stroke neurologist at the University of Lille, France, and holds a Ph.D. in epidemiology and a Master degree in statistical genetics. A former Fulbright fellow at Boston University with the Framingham Heart Study, she worked as a neurologist and researcher at Lariboisière Hospital in Paris, and subsequently obtained a European Research Council starting grant with Inserm U1219 at the University of Bordeaux, France, were she is appointed since 2014.
She collaborates closely with the Cohorts of Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) consortium, currently serves as Chair of the International Stroke Genetics Consortium (ISGC), and coordinates the CADISP consortium on Cervical Artery Dissection and Ischemic Stroke in young Patients.
She is also a current member of the editorial board of Stroke and International Journal of Stroke, of the Scientific Committee of the French Stroke Research Foundation, and holds a position of Vice President for External Relations at the University of Bordeaux.
